Streetwear- How it has changed the Fashion business

Who in the world doesn’t love fashion. Be it a young guy/girl or an oldie, everybody wants to carry their best look. To get the best OOTD i.e. outfit of the day for the entire week, people pick a variety of clothes from different genres and also tend to mix up things.

In the process of getting the most desirable look, a large amount of time and energy is being spent on choosing what to wear and from where. With time everything gets changed and so is fashion. Every other day one new look gets into the visual media and everybody checks it out and adds something to it and makes it look even more desirable. A perfect match would be anything that is trendy, comfortable, and would suit an individual properly. It isn’t just limited to extremely bright colors and long loose clothes. It is just more than that.

Let’s discuss further the reasons because of which the streets looks have changed the entire fashion industry-

  1. Carried the voice of the youth- Years and years prior, streetwear was taken to be fit distinctly for teens who are rebels. Especially in North America, kids considered streetwear a way to represent themselves and they believed that only if they put on street clothes they would be heard. This attracted more and more youth who wanted to raise their voice for their rights in the earlier societies of America where the youth had a lack of access to Social Media to keep up their issue in front of the authorities. Over the period of time, it got converted into casual wear because of its acceptance in society.
  1. Highly flexible- When the different designs came from quality designers at a time, it was fixed as to what should be worn and the right way to wear it. For example- French Suits had a proper definition of how it was worn. Anybody not wearing it properly was not entertained. This wasn’t in the case of Streetwear. Unlike formal clothing, streetwear carried a unique style that included everything which an individual wants to wear without restrictions. It completely depends upon the person who is carrying the look as to what he wants to wear and how he wants to carry it.
  2. Representation of background and culture- When streetwear originated, it didn’t spread instantly. It basically originated in the US where a group of young individuals unanimously decided to form a gang and would represent themselves wearing a similar type of clothing which would unite them in a way. This is where streetwear came into the picture. To look unique, they established their form of style which majorly included wearing Hoodies, Sweatshirts, Scarfes, Loose Clothes, etc. Gradually, as it spread to other parts of the world, people started improvising it as per their comfort and added a lot of new items to this unique sense of styling
  1. Inspired by Influencers- Gradually, the influencers who had to look good all through the day saw potential in the streetwear which would help them gain popularity quickly. Their unique sense of styling streetwear clothes helped them create hype about themselves in the market. Any popular celebrity’s one distinct look influenced millions of his followers to check out the look and try to imbibe the same in their lives. Now that the influencers are everywhere like different social media platforms, they are being approached by some high-quality brands too for promoting their brand on their social media handles.
  1. Brands saw potential– Brands realized a way to make revenues by providing unique designs of street clothing to the general public as it was so much in demand. Other than the casual brands, many international brands who were known for their formal clothing also decided to add some of the street clothing into their collections so that people could also find what they were looking for. It not only helped the brands make revenues but also led to an increase in their other types of apparels sales.

Now that streetwear has gone to a level where everybody would have some collection of streetwear in their wardrobe other than what they usually wear, people don’t find it bizarre to see an individual wearing anything funky on a daily basis. Being an integral part of the future of fashion people wearing streetwear have got both respects as well as acceptance in society. This is why more and more people are getting attracted to it.

Gone are those days when only formals and semi-formals looks were seen in the market, streetwear is the new wear which ranges from teenagers to an oldie.
