Even the most meticulous housekeepers understand that mopping floors and scrubbing walls isn’t enough to keep tile grout clean. You’ll need to clean the grout between your tiles every now and then to remove grime and soap buildup.
You can do this by hiring a cleaning service and paying for the “deep clean” option. You can also do it yourself with some common household items and a little elbow work.
In this article, we’ll go over three different ways to remove grout between tiles so that they seem brand new again. Grout Cleaning with Baking Soda and Vinegar
Step 1: Prepare the Workspace
It’s always a good idea to clean the tiles before cleaning the grout between them. If the tiles are on your floor, mop them well.
If the tiles are on the walls, clean them with a damp cloth and a cleaning solution, such as an all-purpose kitchen or bathroom cleaner.
Pro Tip: If you have a large space to clean, you can also mop the walls.
This is only recommended if the floor is tiled as well, like it would be in your bathroom.

Step 2: Get the Cleaning Paste Ready
To make a paste, combine 1 part water (e.g. 1/4 cup) with 3 parts baking soda (e.g. 3/4 cup).
While this paste is a versatile cleaning solution that works with all types of grout, vinegar can harm natural stone such as marble and limestone.
Using your finger, apply the paste to the grout lines. While baking soda isn’t toxic, we recommend using rubber gloves when rubbing the mixture into the grout to avoid scratching or stinging your skin.
Step 3: Get the Cleaning Solution Ready
In a spray bottle, combine 1 part vinegar and 1 part water (50:50 solution). Then, using this solution, spray the paste on the grout. The paste should start bubbling right away, indicating that the cleaning process has begun.
Keep in mind that vinegar should not be used on marble or limestone. For these, you might need to bring out a gurney or a pressure washer.
Step 4: Allow it to work its magic for a while.
A chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar causes the bubbling.
This is just going to last a few minutes. When the bubbling stops, you’ll know the chemical reaction has completed and the cleaning has occurred.

Scrub the damp paste into the grout using a nylon bristles brush (such as a dishwashing brush or an old toothbrush).Scrub along the grout lines so the bristles spend the majority of their time on the grout rather than the tiles.
Tip 2: Pay special attention to the grout lines’ intersecting corners and edges to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned.
Step 6: Take Care of the Mess
Mop the floor with simple water to remove the paste. If you’re cleaning the grout on the walls, start with this area and then clean up any spills on the floor.
While you’re doing this, make sure to rinse the mop and change the water periodically so you don’t end up spreading the filth. Using Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda, and Dishwashing Soap to Clean Grout
Step 1: Get the Area Ready
Prepare the area for deep cleaning using the same way as before.
Step 2: Get the Cleaning Paste Ready
1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts baking soda To make a paste, add a spoonful of dishwashing liquid. This strong paste’s three ingredients clean grout in three distinct ways:
1. Baking soda has a moderate abrasive effect;
2. When hydrogen peroxide and baking soda are mixed, a chemical reaction occurs, releasing bleaching oxygen ions;
3. Dishwashing liquid aids in the dissolution of grease and filth, making it easier to remove.
NOTE: Because of the bleaching oxygen ions emitted, this procedure may cause tile damage.
If at all feasible, try it out on a small patch that is hidden from view.
Step 3: Using a brush, apply the paste.
Apply the paste to the tiles and grout cleaning ardeer using a nylon bristles brush or gloved fingers.
To get an even effect, make sure that all of the areas you want to clean are properly coated with the paste.
Step 4: Visualize how lovely your house will be.
It takes at least 15 minutes for the paste to work its magic. While with the previous procedure, you may notice some bubbling as it works. Allow some time for the paste to fully remove the stains from the grout.
Step 5: Complete the cleaning
Clean up the paste with warm water. Make sure you follow the steps in the prior method’s Step 6 to the letter.
If you’re cleaning a broad area, you might want to start by wiping away the paste with a damp cloth and then mopping the area. If any residue is left behind, the soap may become slippery, and the bleaching may damage the tiles if left for an extended amount of time.
