Malamala Beach Resort Aerial Shot

We’d heard so many good things about Malamala Beach Club, the world’s first island Beach Club, that we had to go check it out for ourselves. I know, it’s a tough gig here at My Fiji Store! Not only is this Beach Club located on a stunning Fijian Island, they also have award-winning Chef Lance Seeto running their kitchen – a must-try as a foodie!

Malamala Beach Club Location

Located on a Fijian island just 25 minutes from Port Denarau Marina, Malamala Beach Club is easy to get to and when you arrive… WOW! A stunning white sand beach and crystal clear water greets you as well as friendly staff who I have to say, looked amazing in their Malamala Beach Club uniforms.

Each aspect of Malamala Beach Club has been carefully designed, the staff uniforms and branding are no exception. Down to each separate area of the island, the menu design, the food stands and bar, the infinity pool, poolside day beds, cabanas with butler service and beachside loungers, Malamala is very impressive. There’s even a Heliport on the Jetty if you want to arrive in style!

Our Malamala Beach Club Day Trip

Port Denarau Marina Fiji

As Fiji locals we found our own way to Port Denarau Marina, however the Day Pass does include return coach connection and vessel transfers from most hotels and resorts located in Nadi, Denarau, Coral Coast, Natadola, Momi Bay and Sonaisali. Once at the Port we waited outside Lulu’s, excited to get to Malamala and relax on the beach!

The boat ride with South Sea Cruises was quick and comfortable, and as we pulled in to Malamala, the crystal clear waters had guests oohing and aahing, with many rushing to the other side of the boat to see the island.

When we arrived at the jetty, we were greeted by big bula smiles! Everyone was eager to get to the Beach Club and find their spot – we walked to the main reception area in The Hub to check in and pick up our towels.

Now we had checked in, we wanted to find a quiet spot to relax, soak up that sun and enjoy the view! We found a spot tucked away on the beach – beach loungers under an umbrella with plenty of shade, a great ocean view and easy access to the water. Perfect!

Malamala Beach Club Activities

Malamala Beach Club Fiji – Life Vests
Malamala Beach Club Fiji – Snorkel-gear

There is plenty to do on the island – water sports are included as part of the Day Pass. You can choose from snorkelling, kayaking, paddle-boarding or simply swimming in those warm turquoise waters! There’s also the Infinity pool and the beach if you just want to relax and soak up those Fiji vibes.

Malamala Beach Club Food & Drink

For lunch I had the Blackened Fish Tacos with a side of Island Fries – sweet potato with coconut sugar salt – very tasty.

I had been eyeing up the dessert menu for later, but with that hot Fijian sun beating down on us, the thought of ice-cream was too good to pass up.

Malamala Beach Club Fiji Menu

Instead of dessert, I indulged in a Coconut & Passion fruit ice-cream topped with chocolate pieces and walnuts – I have to admit I felt like a big kid picking out my toppings and it made me extremely happy!

The ice-cream was made by a local Fiji company I hadn’t tried before called Lelei, they have some great flavour combinations: Creamy Lychee, Coconut and Passionfruit, Double Chocolate and Chocolate and Pomegranate.

I saw a tray of Golden Orb’s on their way to some lucky diners on the beach – and wished I had more space to try that! It’s a fried caramel ice cream sphere with fresh honeycomb, white chocolate soil and cardamom chocolate sauce… looked divine!

Drinks – again there’s a good selection, from Bu – Fresh Fijian Coconut Water – to Cocktails, Mocktails, Champagne, Wine, Local & Imported Beers, Cider, fresh fruit juices, soft drinks and water.

There simply wasn’t enough time to try all the yummy items on the menu, what with relaxing on the lounger, walking along the beach, going for a couple of swims and having a tour of the island. So I guess I’ll have to go back for another visit!

Areas of Malamala Beach Club

Malamala Beach Club has many different areas – from arrival at the Jetty, which also doubles as a Helipad, to check-in at The Hub, you can choose which section you’d like to relax in. There is The Club area which houses the Dining section, comfortable indoor seating, the Ice-cream Bar & Coconut water stand – with a stunning view of golden sand, swaying palm trees and beautiful ocean.

Then there are the relaxation areas – The Bar, The Pool, The Deck, The Venue, The Beachside Cabanas. There are also poolside day beds and beachside loungers so plenty to choose from. For activities there is The Watersports area where you can find snorkels, kayaks and paddle-boards.

Top tip – the Beach Club was quite busy when we went, so a lot of the poolside day beds were already booked, as were the private beachside cabanas. We found some beachside loungers which we were really happy with, but if you’re planning to go in high season it’s worth booking your daybed or cabana in advance.

Summary

There were lots of nice touches, Malamala Beach Club is set on a beautiful Fiji island just 25 minutes from Port Denarau Marina, so for a day trip it’s the perfect location! The food was wonderful, with lots to explore on the menu, and we had a lazy day so didn’t try the water sports but saw plenty of people enjoying the kayaking and snorkelling. There were paper straws in the drinks instead of plastic which was a nice touch.

Definitely a place I’d go back to, it’s perfect for people who want to enjoy a Fijian island paradise. Here’s the Malamala Website for more information.
